Bodies in the River, River in the Bodies​​​

Zine created with researchers George Cusworth, Oscar Hartman Davies and the wider Avon community, expressing people's differing, complex relationships with the River Avon.

 

The zine explores human and river health among recreational water users and water quality advocates in the UK. Where human bodies and river bodies meet and intermingle, forms of environmental citizenship, knowledges, and politics are emerging that point towards better ways of living together. 

 

There were over 60 participants who shared their experiences with the river through creative and written responses, which we combined in the zine with elements such as maps, digital interfaces, photographs to find the story and shape that best represented our collective experience with the river.

I designed the format of the zine to evoke a sense of lengthening and deepening, a deepening of our relationship with the Avon as well as a physical submersion.
